Some of the best parts about the downtown area is that you can walk everywhere you need to go. This can't be said for most parts of the city of Raleigh. It's a spread out city so you will need a car, or easy access to public transportation. Downtown offers easy access to all the major attractions which are regularly in walking distance of one another
